In 2016, TRP began working with reigning world cup champion, Aaron Gwin, to redesign our DH-R EVO brakes. Out of the gate, he was impressed with the initial level of performance, but he did have a list of improvements needed to achieve world cup-winning performance. Working closely with the TRP development team, improvements were made in nearly every part of the brake and tested on the world cup circuit throughout the season. We took most of the changes made to the DH-R EVO brakes and put them into the Slate T4. This brake features the same ergonomic lever made from cast aluminum and a forged/CNC'd caliper, both of which were given a matte black finish. It also features a new and stiffer 5.0mm hose for easier internal routing and better transfer of hydraulic power. The solution is our patent pending oval shape which combines the best ride characteristics of 31.8mm and 35mm bar standards into one package. This is the most comfortable bar we’ve ever ridden, period. It's strong, lightweight, minimizes arm pump and vibration and maximize steering response. 35 done right. Almost every other carbon bar on the market copies the simple tapered profile of an Aluminum bar. With carbon you can take advantage of more complex shapes to get a better performing product, so that's what we did. If you actually care about bar compliance, then you don't make a regular 35mm diameter bar. Sure you can try to "optimize" the flex slightly with layup, but geometry is king and you're fighting a losing battle. The OneUp bar profile minimizes the length of the 35 diameter clamping area as this is the stiffest portion of any 35 diameter bar. The 35mm clamp diameter quickly changes to a flattened, oval shape in the transition zone and then to a standard 22.2mm clamp diameter for the control zone. We benchmarked the OneUp bar against the most popular carbon bars on the market as well as foam filled aluminum bars. The results were, on average, a 21% increase in vertical compliance (comfort) coupled with a 28% increase in steering stiffness (responsiveness). These are more than just marginal gains. In development for almost two years, the 2x utilizes our patented integrated skid chainring protection and introduces a new patent-pending dual pulley tensioning system The 2x is designed to work seamlessly with the new wave of 2×10 drivetrains being specified on many new mountain bikes. These new drivetrains created new challenges to chain management with their unique gear ratios, chain lines, and impact protection requirements. The 2x solves all of these challenges. To create the 2x guide, MRP began the process of applying our range of technologies and systems to find the optimal solution for 2×10 drivetrains, and through collaboration with SRAM and extensive testing it was decided that the ultimate light weight solution was a chain guide sharing elements of the G2sl, LRP, and XCG products.
